Wintersun - Rickshaw Theater Vancouver
I’m happy when it comes metal bands to Vancouver, especially bands from Europe. The music different a lot from the two sides, even within metal, North America have a heavier and hard touch to their music while Europe goes in general for a more melodic touch to everything, which I really enjoy a lot.
First up was:
Starkill – Young band from Anaheim, looked like they where 16 years old and their mom’s was behind stage and being proud of them. Or they escaped their mothers because it’s metal and we are all awful, since we are metal heads… or something =) They still put of a good show and had great energy while playing.
Fleshgod Apocalypse – Italian technical death metal band in suit with a mix of opera? O yes, we got Fleshgod Apocalypse. Great music, love the touch with the female back vocalist singing opera with growling from the singer.
Arsis – A technical melodic death metal band from Virginia Beach, America. They had decent music, nothing really special to it, they where okay on stage, nothing really special with their performance.
Wintersun – Finnish metal band, was originally created by guitarist, keyboardist, bassist, songwriter and vocalist Jari Mäenpää as a side project to folk metal band Ensiferum, for whom he was lead singer and guitarist.
Jari had great energy and was really excited playing, bunching all over the stage smiling like a 5 years old on Christmas morning, great to see. I’m not a big fan of Wintersun, they have good music, they got long songs that vary a lot in tempo, since I didn’t know the song very well got me tierd on the slow parts and then suddenly it was action again.
Overall it was a great night with a lot of people at Rickshaw Theater, the crowed really enjoyed the show and seemed like everyone had a good time.
